First, there was Slashback Video. Then there was Revenge of Slashback Video. But are you ready for Slashback 3? According to an Instagram post from exhibit creator Ryan Turek, it’s coming.
For those unfamiliar with Slashback Video, it began as an all-horror VHS art installation that transformed a section of the Mystic Museum in Burbank, CA into a 1980s video store. The shelves were lined with the covers of hundreds of horror films from the heyday of horror cover art and were paired with artist works inspired by the era.
A version of the exhibit appeared at Midsummer Scream last year before returning to The Mystic Museum last fall with Revenge of Slashback Video which expanded the exhibit to include horror video games as well as horror laserdiscs.
Slashback Video had a small presence at Midsummer Scream this past weekend as one of the various photo ops hosted by The Mystic Museum, but next February fans of the exhibit will be treated to a third full exhibit at the Mystic Museum and according to Turek, “we’re going to have some fun surprises.”
At this point, this is all Turek has revealed, but at least we now know Slashback Video will return and if I know anything about Turek, his wife, and the folks at The Mystic Museum who are responsible for the exhibit, they won’t disappoint.
