In the year of COVID-19, it’s hard telling what’s going to happen with all the horror movies we were hoping to see this year. While some films like Halloween Kills have been pushed back to a 2021 release, others like Antebellum have shifted to a digital release, at least here in the U.S. Now, Lionsgate has reportedly confirmed that horror movie Run, starring Sarah Paulson, is moving off the theatrical release schedule and heading to Hulu.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service acquired the domestic rights from Lionsgate. Run was originally scheduled to hit theaters on May 8, 2020, to coincide with Mother’s Day Weekend, but the release was postponed after theaters closed due to the current pandemic. The film will still be released theatrically in select international markets.
Run is the latest from the filmmaking team behind the 2018 thriller Searching and tells the story of an overprotective mother, played by Paulson, and her teenage daughter Chloe, played by newcomer Kiera Allen. Raised in isolation, Chloe discovers her relationship with her mother may be more twisted than she thought as she begins uncovering the dark truths of her mother’s past.
“…the film is about a girl who’s been quarantined at home her whole life; watching it the same way should be a fitting experience in 2020,” said the movie’s director, Aneesh Chaganty.
A Hulu premiere date has not been announced.
