During this week’s San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Brothers dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated new film from Steven Spielberg, Ready Player One. Â The movie, based on the book of the same name, tells the story of Wade Watts a teenager in 2045 who is on a quest to gain the fortune of an MMO creator finding clues in both a virtual world called “The Oasis” as well as the real world.
In the trailer we catch a glimpse of The Oasis’ virtual world and come across a number of pop culture icons along the way. Â Here are some that I discovered while watching the trailer. Â Is there anyone I missed?
 The Iron Giant
Our first cameo comes from the Iron Giant, seen above in the second scene inside The Oasis from the trailer. Â You may remember him from the 1999 Warner Bros. animated feature, “The Iron Giant”
Freddy Krueger
This is how Freddy appears before getting blown to smithereens by some ogreish looking warrior that looks straight outta Gears of War.
The Delorean from Back to the Future
Don’t think this one needs much of an introduction, but what I find interesting is that if you pause a few frames before this you actually see the Delorean with the doors open and it has the full panel from Back to the Future that Marty and Doc use to set their time travel dates.
Ready Player One is set to hit theaters in 2018
