Second Trailer Arrives for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’

On Thursday, Warner Bros. Pictures unleashed a second helping of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” with an all-new trailer. While the first trailer focused heavily on characters and the overarching story of the “Beetlejuice” sequel, the latest trailer gives us our most in-depth look into the film’s plot to date.

The trailer opens with a closer look at Jenna Ortega as Astrid, who we quickly learn is an outcast at her school. She is bullied by a group of girls, which we can assume is a result of her family ties. Astrid seems comfortable as an outcast but perhaps has no desire to be “strange and unusual” like her mother. Going so far as to say, “Ghosts aren’t real” and “Only gullible people believe that kind of crap.”

The trailer suggests that Astrid’s ignorance of the Afterlife might have something to do with her dilemma in the film. As we see Astrid dragged away by a couple of Afterlife ghouls, we hear Astrid’s mother, Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder, enlist the help of Beetlejuice to save her daughter. We know from the film’s synopsis that after “an unexpected family tragedy” brings “three generations of the Deetz family” back to Winter River, Connecticut, it’s there that “Astrid discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife.”

The new trailer also gives us several callbacks to the original film, including a wedding scene and a dance sequence between Astrid and Delia Deetz (Catherine O’Hara). It also provides more in-depth looks at Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe’s characters.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is the highly anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 film “Beetlejuice.” Michael Keaton returns in his iconic role as Beetlejuice. The film is directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Wednesday”), a story by Gough & Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith (“The LEGO Batman Movie”), based on characters created by Michael McDowell & Larry Wilson.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will arrive exclusively in theaters on September 6, 2024.
