The Mystic Museum in Burbank, CA, announced this week that after being closed for the last year, “Slashback Video: The Beginning” is re-opening to the public.

The interactive exhibit opened on February 22, 2020, and was supposed to run through June of last year but was cut short when The Mystic Museum temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibit hosted a special virtual tour in May of last year and re-opened briefly last summer but has otherwise been closed to the public. This Saturday, April 3, 2021, marks the exhibit’s official return, which happens to coincide with the grand opening of The Mystic Museum’s new store Camp Horror.

“Slashback Video: The Beginning” takes the ever-evolving exhibit that first debuted in 2017 in a slightly new direction. While still giving you that old-school video store experience, it also adds a narrative to the exhibit. The exhibit also features more interactive experiences and photo ops built into it, both staples of some of The Mystic Museum’s more recent exhibits.

Due to anticipated higher attendance, tickets to attend “Slashback Video: The Beginning” on Saturday, April 3, or Sunday, April 4 must be pre-purchased online through The Mystic Museum website. Slashback Video will return to regular daily operation on Monday, April 5, and will be open from noon-7 pm, with the exhibit expected to remain on display for the next few months.

“Slashback Video: The Beginning” is the third iteration of the all-horror VHS art installation Slashback Video. The popular exhibit is the work of Mystic Museum owners Kiko Bailey and Erick Wessel, Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek, and his wife, Ciara. It is an homage to the video stores of the ’80s and ’90s and the horror VHS that they housed.
