On Monday, Sony Pictures dropped the official trailer for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” and brings with it several familiar faces from the franchise, including the fan favorite specter, Slimer.
Directed by Gil Kenan, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” is a follow-up to 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and returns the franchise to New York City and the iconic Ghostbusters firehouse. Here, the Spengler family has teamed up with the original Ghostbusters to develop a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters, new and old, must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
While the teaser for the film, which was released last November, showed the return of several original “Ghostbusters” cast members, the latest trailer gives us our first look at the return of Slimer, the gross but loveable ghost who first appeared in the original “Ghostbusters” film and became a part of the Ghostbusters crew in “The Real Ghostbusters” cartoons. The new trailer also shows us some new Ghostbusters tech that the team has been developing in their secret lab and several new ghosts from the film.
