Spirit Halloween unleashed another round of sneak peeks of their 2020 animatronics today. Yesterday, they gave us two new animatronics with Miserable Marie and Punctured Pete, and today they’re giving us an early look at three with Fright in the Box, Clowning Around, and Johnny Punk.
The Fright in the Box animatronic is a 3.5-foot jack-in-the-box that plays pop goes the weasel and houses a twisted clown that pops up and screams and laughs. This is probably one of my favorite animatronics unveiled so far this season.
Fright in the Box is available now for pre-order and is expected to ship by September 2, 2020.
Spirit’s second creepy clown reveal is their latest seven-foot-tall clown animatronic called Clowning Around. While last year’s seven-foot-tall clown Crouchy seemed inspired by Pennywise from the movie IT, this year’s seven-foot clown appears to borrow its inspiration from Art the Clown from the movie Terrifier.
The giant black and white clown flails two of his victims around while spouting off six different twisted phrases.
- “Ah-hyuk! Well look at these two little ones, all wriggly and squirmy-like! They’re so cute I could just eat them up. Hey, that’s not a bad idea! Ah-hyuk yuk!”
- “Hey now, there’s no need to be like that! We’re gonna have SO MUCH FUN together huh huh! Just you wait, soon you’ll be screaming with happiness *screams* See? We’re all having fun now hyuk-hyuk”
- “Hey you two, trying to get by me without giving me a hug?! Why, you could have hurt my feelings if i had any. Shucks, I’d run away from me too if I could! Hoo hoo hoo!”
- “Looks like I got some new material for my act. Don’t worry now, I’m a pro-fessional. I do wonder though, should I juggle you with torches or chainsaws? Huh-hahhahaha! They both sound fun to me! hahahah”
- “Hey, you there! I’m trying to figure out what to do with these two little tykes, but, as you can see, they’re a bit unwilling to cooperate. So, so I put them in the box? Or in the pot? Huh huh huh I know, right?! Either way sounds great to me. Huh-huh ha!”
- “Little Uncle boo-boo climbin’ through your window, scoopin’ up the children and bitin’ off their heads. Huh huh. Oh, come on! Everybody’s a critic. Huh-huh-ha!”
The Clowning Around animatronic is available for pre-order now on the Spirit Halloween website and is expected to ship by September 30.
Spirit’s third creepy clown reveal of the day is less menacing than the other clowns. That’s probably because Johnny Punk is just the school bully in a clown mask. Johnny swings back and forth on his swing while taunting his onlookers with one of three different phrases.
Johnny Punk is available now for pre-order and is expected to ship by August 12.
