On Wednesday, the official “Stranger Things” YouTube channel teased something new with a bizarre video showing Hawkins National Laboratory. Today, we learned what the video was all about, as the channel dropped a brand new teaser for “Stranger Things 4.”
The events in the new teaser appear to take place before season one of the series. In it, we see some small children with shaved heads in hospital gowns playing in a room full of rainbows. The trailer also appears to bring back season one baddy Dr. Brenner, who, of course, ran the program at Hawkins Lab that Eleven and the other gifted children were part of.
As the teaser progresses, you see the children playing with a variety of toys and games. Interestingly, some of these are also the items we saw spattered in blood in Wednesday’s video, including a chessboard and magic eight ball. Towards the end of the video, we hear Dr. Brenner tell the children he has something “very special” planned for them. Something tells me things don’t go as planned based on all the blood we saw in Wednesday’s video.
As the teaser concludes, the camera pans down the hallway until it reaches a door that says “11.” The screen then fades to black before we hear Dr. Brenner’s voice again as he asks, “Eleven, are you listening?” followed by a closeup of Eleven as she opens her eyes.
So what does this all mean? It’s hard to say. We know that at the conclusion of “Stranger Things 3,” Eleven was left powerless. Eleven is known to have flashbacks, so perhaps in an effort to find her powers again, she revisits her memories of Hawkins Lab, where she learned to hone her abilities.
However, it could also be the introduction of some new characters. The video description simply reads, “002/004,” which is likely a reference to two of the subjects we see playing in the teaser. Are they the key to Eleven regaining her powers? Are they somehow tied to some of the events that have plagued Hawkins over the last three seasons? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
