With witchcraft, divination, and similar practices finding their way into mainstream culture, the release of themed and licensed tarot decks has been on the rise. Recently we learned that FYE is getting an exclusive Garbage Pail Kids tarot deck, and now we’ve discovered that “Stranger Things” will be getting a Tarot Deck and Guidebook release later this summer.
I first uncovered the new deck from Box Lunch. The new Stranger Things Tarot Card Deck & Guidebook is slated for an early September release and is available for pre-order now for $27.90 on boxlunch.com. The new deck features the below artwork and the following description:
Take your divination to the Upside Down with a little help from the Hawkins crew! Inspired by the hit series, Stranger Things, Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Max, and more of your favorites appear as this tarot deck. With an included tarot card guidebook, you’ll be able to look for your own guidance in sci-fi fashion.
But what’s interesting, is while trying to find more information on this Tarot Deck I also uncovered another (or possibly the same) Stranger Things Tarot Deck and Guidebook with different artwork.
This deck, from Simon & Schuster, is available for pre-order from Amazon for $24.99 and claims to be the first official “Stranger Things” tarot deck. The 78-card deck is comprised of both major and minor arcana and features original artwork inspired by classic tarot iconography, and depicts fan-favorite characters, imagery, and themes from “Stranger Things.” The Simon and Schuster website lists the deck as available from Amazon as well as a variety of book retailers, but there is no mention of BoxLunch, so it’s unclear if the BoxLunch release features exclusive artwork, or if the decks are in fact two different releases.
I reached out to BoxLunch to try and confirm whether the deck featured on their website was a different deck or just featured different artwork, but as of the time of this publishing, no further details were available. I will update this piece if/when more details are provided around whether or not these are the same decks with different artwork or two different decks completely.
