On Tuesday, SYFY announced a dynamic new programming lineup celebrating 30 years of genre programming. The new lineup includes the original series “Reginald the Vampire,” the original film “Bring It On: Cheer or Die,” and the return of the breakout hit “Chucky.”
“Reginald the Vampire” is new dramedy series based on Johnny B. Truant’s “Fat Vampire” book series. The series stars Jacob Batalon (“Spider-Man: No Way Home”) as Reginald Andres, the unlikely hero navigating a world populated by beautiful, fit, and vain vampires. The girl he loves he can’t be with, his manager at work is a bully, and the vampire chieftain wants him dead. Fortunately, Reginald discovers he has a few unrecognized powers of his own. The series also stars Mandela Van Peebles (“Mayor of Kingstown”) and Em Haine (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”).
The SyFy original film “Bright It On: Cheer or Die” will premiere on SYFY this fall. Written by Rebekah McKendry (“All the Creatures Were Stirring”) and Dana Schwartz (“Noble Blood” podcast) from a story by Alyson Fouse (“Bring It On: Fight to the Finish”), “Bring It On: Cheer or Die,” follows a cheerleading squad as their plan to have a secret practice at an abandoned school on Halloween takes a terrifying turn when their teammates begin disappearing one by one. The film stars Missi Pyle, Kerri Medders and Tiera Skovbye, and is directed by Karen Lam.
“Chucky,” which is executive produced by Don Mancini and continues the storyline of the serial killer doll from the “Child’s Play” and Chucky films, was the #2 scripted cable series of 2021 and will return with new episodes later this year. “Chucky” will be simulcast on USA Network for its second consecutive season. Additionally, the paranormal drama series “SurrealEstate” will return to the network with its sophomore season in 2023.
