SyFy’s Z Nation Get’s a Prequel in the Form of a Comic

The SyFy series Z Nation is due to return for its fourth season later this year.  For fans eagerly awaiting new episodes, SyFy and Dynamite Entertainment have just released something that may tide you over; a prequel in the form of a comic book.  Written by Z Nation co-creator Craig Engler and Fred Van Lente, with art by Edu Menna, the comics will tell stories from the early days of the apocalypse.

Set in Year Two of the Zpocalypse during what is known as the “Black Summer,” the six-issue series will re-introduce fans to the late Charles Garnett as he and other survivors head on a mission to retrieve a possibly untouched cache of the food substitute Soylent Z.  I’m not totally sure how the pirate zombies come into it though…

Here’s the comic’s official synopsis:

A prequel set in the world of Syfy and Asylum’s #1 scripted hit zombie series Z Nation, Black Summer is as bad as the apocalypse gets. A worldwide drought and famine when most of the surviving population dies and turns zombie. As the remnants of humanity cling to existence, fan favorite Charles Garnett returns to send a new team on a desperate new mission: Retrieve a possibly untouched cache of the food substitute Soylent Z from Galveston, Texas.

But when mission leader Israel Johnson and his small team arrive in Galveston, they’ll face a threat unlike anything ever seen before in the zombie genre.

The 32-page first issue of the series is on sale now, with issue two scheduled to hit stores on May 10, issue three scheduled for June 21 and additional issues released thereafter.
