Studio Wichstar has announced its debut game, “The Final Farewell,” will arrive on Steam in April 2024.
“The Final Farewell” is a cozy narrative adventure about saying goodbye and letting go of those we love while cherishing the memories they leave behind. As a lost ghost, players will wander the beautiful yet ominous Whispering Woods, befriending wayward mortals and piecing together their misty memories. Successfully lay to rest the echoes of the past, and you may even discover the truth of your own demise!
“The idea for the game came from the concept of ghosts, and what – or who – haunts us,” says Creative Director Catherine McFall. “Grief is a complex topic that everyone can relate to, and it doesn’t always relate to death – sometimes we grieve when a relationship ends, or for a path unchosen in life. We wanted to provide a cathartic experience for the player to process their own feelings on the topic. What if you could take some control of what you’ve lost or forgotten?”
“The Final Farewell” will be released on PC in April. It is available to wishlist now on Steam.
“We are extremely excited to share ‘The Final Farewell’ with you all, and we hope that, post-release, we can continue to add more content to the game with feedback from our community,” said Studio Head, Lorna McFall. “We want to support the players who support us.”
Based in Northern Ireland, Studio Wichstar comprises a team of early career starts and hopes to create a welcoming space for other junior creatives to demonstrate their unlocked potential. “The Final Farewell” was made possible through support from Northern Ireland Screen and its MiniGame program, which offers funding and resources to help video game studios in the region release their first game.
