Now that the classic Popeye the Sailor Man character has entered the public domain, two horror movies based on him are slated to arrive in 2025. On Tuesday, we got the first release with “Popeye’s Revenge.”

From the executive producers of the public domain horror that started it all, “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” comes a brand-new and horrifying take on the classic character. Directed by William Stead (“Children of the Night”), “Popeye’s Revenge” sounds a lot like Popeye Meets “Friday the 13th.” The film’s description reads, “The legend of Popeye haunts a group of councilors as they intend to open a summer camp,” and you learn in the trailer that the area is haunted by Popeye, who drowned 15 years prior.

The film stars Kelly Rian Sanson (“Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2”), Danielle Scott (“Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey”), and Danielle Ronald (“Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey”), with Popeye being played in the film by Steven Murphy (“Relentless”).

“Popeye’s Revenge” is now available exclusively through Video on Demand on Amazon. The second Popeye film, “Popeye The Slayer Man,” is expected to arrive sometime later this year.
