A remake of the 1996 arcade rail-shooter “The House of the Dead” is coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime later this year.
Announced as part of Nintendo’s Indie Showcase on Wednesday, the arcade classic is getting a modern makeover from Forever Entertainment. “The House of the Dead: Remake” will receive a “whole new entourage and gameplay changes to suit modern gaming standards” including updated graphics, updated controls, single or two-player co-op gameplay, and multiple endings.
In “The House of the Dead: Remake,” you’ll suit up as a pair of government agents sent to investigate a series of disappearances only to find hordes of undead monstrosities.
The original “The House of the Dead” was released by SEGA in 1996 as a first-person light gun shooter arcade game. In it, players assumed the roles of two government agents who had to fight their way through the swarms of undead unleashed by mad scientist Dr. Curien. The game spawned several sequels and spinoffs, as well as a feature film directed by Uwe Boll.
“The House of the Dead: Remake” is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2021.
