The Original ‘Alone in the Dark’ Video Game Trilogy Being Re-Imagined for Modern Gamers

As an early PC gamer, 1992’s “Alone in the Dark” was one of the first titles I remember having in my game library. I spent many a night navigating the frustrating camera angles of a polygonal world in search of the secrets of Derceto Manor, all while attempting awkwardly timed attacks on the foes that filled its halls. To say the original gameplay was frustrating would be an understatement. Still, as the godfather of survival horror, it’s a game that I’ve remembered fondly (for better or for worse) for the last 30 years, which is why I was elated to hear that THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive are re-imagining the original “Alone in the Dark” trilogy for modern audiences.

Announced during the THQ showcase, the game is being described as a “love letter” to the original series. Gamers will return to the 1920s deep south on the hunt for answers around the disappearance of Emily Hartwood’s uncle. “Alone in the Dark” will again let players choose to play as either private investigator Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood herself and embark on a journey to Derceto Manor, which in the re-imagining is now a home for the mentally ill. You’ll encounter strange residents, nightmarish realms, dangerous monsters and ultimately uncover a plot of rising evil.

This re-imagination of the original trilogy aims to scare you to the bone and returns to infamous locations with a whole new story and mythical places to explore. Alone in the Dark features a noir setting with classical Lovecraftian horror elements, where the familiar meets the surreal.

“Alone in the Dark” is developed by Pieces Interactive in Sweden and will be coming to PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5.
