Last October, Fortnite hosted an in-game short film festival called “Shortnitemares.” During the event, Animation and VFX house Plastic Wax debuted the first episode of a new mini-series that puts a modern spin on Universal’s iconic Monsters. Tonight, the Monsters return to the game with the premiere of the entire “We Will Be Monsters” mini-series at 8 PM ET.
The first episode takes place in Hong Kong, where Van Helsing and Dracula face off in a fast-paced sword fight in an ancient temple. While historically, Van Helsing has always been the victor, this time, the Bride of Frankenstein intervenes and changes the fates of both Dracula and Van Helsing. The short ends with the Bride expressing that they were running out of time and needed Dracula’s help to “free the others,” which turn out to be more Monsters. The short ends there, but with tonight’s in-game release, we’ll get to see where the story takes us and what other monsters are part of this universe.
If you don’t play Fortnite, you can still catch the shorts in their entirety tonight. The official Universal Monsters TikTok will be doing a live stream of the mini-series during the in-game event.
To celebrate the series premiere, the classic Frankenstein’s Monster and Mummy skins, as well as The Bride skin from the new mini-series, will be returning to the Fortnite Item Shop. The skins first debuted in the shop during the Fortnite Shortnitemares event last October.
