As COVID-19 continues to loom over Halloween, companies have been searching for ways to keep the spirit of the holiday alive with alternatives to typical traditions. Last week Mars Wrigley launched the first-ever virtual trick-or-treating experience, but another experience has emerged with My Trick Or Treat.
My Trick Or Treat was developed by a Pasadena, CA father, Rob Mitchell, who saw a need to create something special for his son Miles for the Halloween season. With inspiration from his son, he launched Halloweenville at MyTrickorTreat.com, an online destination where friends and families can celebrate Halloween virtually, complete with activities, games, and a customizable Halloweenville page. Kids can also accumulate real-life candy from family and friends.
“Halloweenville is a safe space to celebrate Halloween during these unprecedented times,” said Mitchell. “Parents want a safe alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, and this not only provides that but offers additional Halloween-focused activities to help children celebrate the holiday for a longer period of time. Miles is already excited to watch his virtual trick-or-treat bag fill up with candy and read messages from friends and family.”
To get started, parents or guardians must first create a My Trick Or Treat account. Once set up, parents or guardians can add child accounts, allowing them to build their own Halloweenville page using backgrounds, characters, and props. Kids will also have the ability to choose an avatar and dress it up in various costumes in the photo booth. Once they’re set up, you can safely invite friends and family to the child’s page with a private code using email, text, or other popular messaging apps. Guests will then be able to see your child’s Halloweenville creations, and while they are there, they can purchase real candy for your child or leave them a message.
There are six different candy categories to choose from, ranging from $5 to $6 in price. Choose from Chewy, Chocolate, Hard Candy, Peanut, Sour, or Fun Mix. Each candy selection comes with a variety of candies from that category. For instance, a $5 purchase from the Peanut category comes with a selection of Halloween favorites, including two Snickers, two KitKat, two Twix, two Butterfinger, and M&M’s Peanut and Peanut butter. Your child can collect candy throughout the month, and if they amass 150 pieces or more, the candy will be shipped to your home free of charge; otherwise, the parent or guardian will be charged $7 for shipping. Candy arrives in a MyTrickorTreat box and is shipped on the date specified by the parent or guardian in their dashboard.
My Trick Or Treat hopes to provide a safe alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating while offering additional Halloween-focused activities to help children celebrate the holiday for a longer period of time.
