On Saturday, AMC held its “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” panel as part of San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual event Comic-Con@Home. The panel, moderated by “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick, featured chief content officer of “The Walking Dead Universe” Scott M. Gimple, executive producer and showrunner Matt Negrete, and cast members Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Nico Tortorella, Annet Mahendru, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Jelani Alladin, Joe Holt, and Julia Ormand.
The panel opened with Hardwick recapping the final events of the first season before debuting a first look at the upcoming second season of the two-season limited event.
During the panel, Scott Gimple shared that the second season of “World Beyond” will introduce viewers to at least three very distinct worlds along with several new characters. It was also announced that Jelani Alladin, who plays Will, will be joining the cast as a series regular along with Joe Holt (Leo), Ted Sutherland (Percy), and Natalie Gold (Lyla).
But perhaps the most important detail shared during the panel was that the upcoming second season would feature some big moments that will help tie the “The Walking Dead” universe together. “This season especially tells sort of like these in-between stories to some really big things that are happening in the universe that really do join it together,” said Gimple.
When moderator Chris Hardwick jokingly prodded if the connective tissue that would tie the shows together was popular “The Walking Dead” character Rick Grimes, Gimple responded, “I’m glad you said that. I can say, Not Rick Grimes.”
The second and final season of “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” will premiere on AMC on October 3, with episodes being made available early to subscribers of AMC+.
