VIZIO WatchFree+ has thousands of free premium movies and shows that can be streamed on-demand on VIZIO TVs, or by anyone using the VIZIO mobile app. This month, the platform is offering up these 13 horror titles to kick off the new year.
Ghost Rider
Nicolas Cage (“Mandy”) stars as motorcycle rider Johnny Blaze, who sells his soul to the Devil to save his father’s life. But the deal transforms him into the Ghost Rider, the Devil’s own bounty hunter, who is sent to hunt down sinners. Cage stars alongside Eva Mendes (“Hitch”) and Sam Elliott (“Roadhouse”).
SAW
It would go on to spawn nine sequels with a tenth in the works, “SAW” stars Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”) and Leigh Whannell (“Insidious”) as two men who awaken to find themselves on the opposite sides of a dead body, each with specific instructions to kill the other or face consequences. Danny Glover (“Lethal Weapon”) also stars.
Terrifier 2
“Terrifier 2” is the follow-up to Damien Leone’s 2016 film that made Art the Clown a modern horror icon. After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to Miles County, where he begins to target a teenage girl (Lauren LaVera, “Iron Fist”) and her younger brother (Elliott Fullam, “The Calling”) on Halloween.
Secret Window
Johnny Depp stars as a successful writer in the midst of a painful divorce who is stalked at his remote lake house by a would-be scribe who accuses him of plagiarism. Maria Bello (“Coyote Ugly”) and John Turturro (“Barton Fink”) also star.
Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein
Robert De Niro stars as the Creature in this 1994 telling of “Frankenstein.” When the brilliant but unorthodox scientist Dr. Victor Frankenstein rejects the artificial man that he has created, the Creature escapes and later swears revenge. Kenneth Branagh (“Dunkirk”) and Helena Bonham Carter (“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”) also star.
The Mist
In this film adaptation of the Stephen King novella, a thick fog descends upon a rural community, killing anyone caught outside; survivors seek refuge in a local store. Trapped in a darkened cloud of pure horror, the frightened denizens of the town must fend off murderous monster waves.
The film stars Thomas Jane (“The Thin Red Line”), Marcia Gay Harden (“Mystic River”), and Laurie Holden (“The Boys”)
Rob Zombie’s Halloween
Rob Zombie’s take on the horror classic “Halloween” tells of a grown Michael Myers who has escaped from a mental institution after being committed for 15 years, only to return to Haddonfield to find his baby sister, Laurie.
The film stars Scout Taylor-Compton (“An American Crime”) as Laurie Strode, Malcolm McDowell (“A Clockwork Orange”) as Dr. Samuel Loomis, and Tyler Mane (“X-Men”) as Michael Myers.
Hemlock Grove
Previously a Netflix exclusive, “Hemlock Grove” is a television series produced by Eli Roth (“Hostel”) that takes place in the small Pennsylvania town of Hemlock Grove where a teenage girl was brutally murdered. Here, secrets lie and the darkest evils hide in plain sight.
Open Water
Blanchard Ryan (“Orange is the New Black”) and Daniel Travis (“Dexter”) star in this deep sea thriller based on a true story of two scuba divers accidentally stranded in shark-infested waters after their tour boat has left.
Hannibal
Brian Fuller’s NBC series about the early relationship between Hannibal Lecter and FBI profiler Will Graham pushed the boundaries of what a horror-thriller series could show on network television. Mads Mikkelsen (“Doctor Strange”) stars as the cannibalistic psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, opposite Hugh Dancy (“Hysteria”) as Graham. As their twisted game of cat and mouse unfolds, the lines between hunter and hunted blur, and the true nature of their complex and dangerous bond is gradually revealed.
100 Days To Live
When a serial killer abducts a young woman’s fiancรฉ, she must race against the clock to discover the identity of the killer and, more importantly – his motive. Colin Egglesfield (“The Client List”), stars along with Gideon Emery (“Daredevil”) and Heidi Johanningmeier (“Shameless”).
Mark of the Witch
In “Mark of the Witch,” a beautiful young woman is driven into a dark underworld of demonic possession, desire, and extreme indulgences when she learns she may be the devil’s kin. The film stars Paulie Rojas (“Drawn into the Night”), Maria Olsen (“Beneath Us All”) and Nancy Wolfe (“Steel”).
Candy Corn
Rounding out January’s horror lineup is the 2019 horror “Candy Corn.” It’s Halloween weekend, and a group of bullies are planning their annual hazing on local outcast Jacob Atkins. When they take things too far, he’s resurrected to seek revenge against those who wronged him. The film stars Courtney Gains (“Criminal Minds”) and Pancho Moler (“3 From Hell”) alongside horror icons “Halloween” actress P.J. Soles and the late “Candyman” star Tony Todd.
