The end of “Stranger Things 3” was heartbreaking, leading many of us to believe Hopper was killed during an effort to close the gate to the upside down. Since then there have been numerous fan theories about the character’s fate and today, in the first teaser for “Stranger Things 4” titled “From Russia with love…” we finally learn the truth.
In the teaser we discover that Hopper is alive, though likely not well as he is seen doing hard labor in the snow deep within communist Russia. In a statement shared by Deadline, creators The Duffer Brothers had this to say about the upcoming season:
“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper. Although it’s not all good news for our “American”; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything. Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”
I guess this debunks my theory that “The American” could wind up being One, the first test subject of Dr. Brenner that was revealed to be off limits last year in an interview with “Stranger Things” comics writer Jody Houser.
Well, it’s certainly getting exciting in the Stranger Things universe. I don’t think you have to consider your theory debunked JUST yet. For the first time, I’m actually really looking forward to a new Stranger Things season!
