Netflix allowed fans to unlock the first 15-minutes of Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” on Thursday via an interactive livestream event on YouTube, where fans helped actor Dave Bautista in a heist to unleash the film preview.
The game-like event required viewers to type specific emojis in the chatbox in an effort to communicate to the broader heist team commands for the mission. As the video progressed, new commands would be communicated through the video, and viewers were required to input enough of the emojis to progress to the next phase of the mission.
The heist consisted of six phases that included digging up a massive vault in the desert, pulling it from the ground, and then ultimately blowing the door open to gain access to the 15-minute clip. You can see how the events unfolded in the replay of the live event below:
After completing the tasks on the livestream, viewers were redirected to a video of the first 15-minutes of the new zombie action heist flick ‘Army of the Dead.’ The film’s opening is a blood-soaked, zombie-infested look at exactly how things go south in Las Vegas, where the film takes place. The video is available now on YouTube but is age-restricted, which means you will be required to log in to your YouTube account to watch it and will only be available for the next 32 hours.
“Army of the Dead” will premiere in select theaters May 14, 2021 and only on Netflix May 21.
