On Thursday, Universal Pictures released the official trailer for its upcoming horror comedy, “Renfield,” which features a modern take on Dracula’s loyal servant.
The film stars Nicholas Hoult (“Mad Max: Fury Road”) as Renfield, the aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula, played by Nicolas Cage. Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.
“Renfield” is set to arrive in theaters on April 14, 2023, and if one thing is clear from the new trailer, this looks to be a wild ride, with Cage’s portrayal of Dracula being one of the wackiest and unique takes on the character to date.
The film is directed by Chris McKay (“The Tomorrow War”) from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (“Ghosted”), based on an original idea by “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman.
The film co-stars Awkwafina (“The Farewell”), Ben Schwartz (“Sonic”), and Adrian Martinez (“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”).
“Renfield” is produced by Skybound Entertainment partners Robert Kirkman and David Alpert), co-presidents Bryan Furst and Sean Furst, and by Chris McKay. McKay’s producing partner Samantha Nisenboim will executive produce.
