[WATCH] Paradise Is Lost in First Trailer for Dark Take on ‘Fantasy Island’ from Blumhouse

Today Sony Pictures released the first trailer for the new, darker take on the classic television series “Fantasy Island.”

While most of us probably only remember Tattoo, played by Hervé Villechaize, screaming, “The plane! The plane!” from the original series. The new film actually doesn’t stray too far from the original concept. A man named Mr. Roarke, played by Michael Peña (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) in the new film, runs a luxurious resort on a remote island where people can go and pay to have their fantasies fulfilled. Like in the series, fulfilling said fantasy never really goes as intended and always comes with a bit of a twist. Though the television series probably never really got into the horror territory that Blumhouse takes it.

While we meet a number of characters in the initial trailer, the focus of the trailer seems to be on Melanie, played by Lucy Hale (Truth or Dare), whose fantasy is to get revenge on a childhood bully. While she initially thinks she’s going to take out years of anger and frustration out on a hologram, she quickly discovers fantasy is actually reality and we’re quickly reminded of the age old saying, “Be careful what you wish for.”

Fantasy Island will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day 2020.
