As promised Warner Bros. released the trailer for the first full-length animated Scooby-Doo film for the big screen SCOOB! today and in it we get a taste of how Shaggy, Scooby, Fred, Velma and Daphne meet to become what will eventually be Mystery Inc.
The new film is the latest take on the beloved cast of characters from the classic Saturday morning cartoon and tells the never-before told stories of Scooby-Doo’s origins and the greatest mystery in the career of Mystery Inc. With an all-new voice cast, SCOOB! reveals how lifelong friends Scooby (Frank Welker) and Shaggy (Will Forte) first met and how they joined with young detectives Fred (Zac Efron), Velma (Gina Rodriguez) and Daphne (Amanda Seyfried) to form the famous Mystery Inc. Now, with hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared, Scooby and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse,” the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.
The new film is also rumored to be the starting point for a planned Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe. While other characters do not appear in the first trailer, Shaggy and Scooby do make mention of the Blue Falcon, the classic Hanna-Barbera superhero who allied with the Mystery Inc. gang from time to time in past cartoons. Other characters from the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons listed with the film’s cast include Dick Dastardly, voiced by Jason Isaacs, Dynomutt voiced by Ken Jeong, and Captain Caveman voiced by Tracy Morgan.
