‘Zombies Ate My Neighbors’ and ‘Ghoul Patrol’ Getting Modern Re-Release

The cult 16-bit classic “Zombies Ate My Neighbors” and its sequel “Ghoul Patrol” are getting a modern re-release this summer on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, PC, and Xbox.

Originally released in 1993 for the Super NES and Sega Genesis, “Zombies At My Neighbors” is a single or two player game where players take on the role of teenagers Zeke and Julie as they defend suburbia from relentless Chainsaw Maniacs, Mummies, Evil Dolls, Lizard Men, Blobs, Vampires, Giant Ants, Martians and more.

Find your way through 55 horror-filled levels like a grocery store gone bad, a shopping mall awry, a mysterious island, and your own backyard. You can fend off the freaks with an arsenal of crazy weapons like uzi squirt guns, exploding soda pop, bazookas, weed whackers, and ancient artifacts. Also, grab power-ups like secret potions and bobo clown decoys.

The game’s sequel, “Ghoul Patrol,” was released in 1994. In it, protagonists Zeke and Julie visit the Ghosts and Ghouls exhibit at the city library, where they find an old treasure chest containing an ancient spirit book. When the two decide to read what’s inside, a horrific snaggle-toothed spirit emerges.

Now, this snarling phantom and his dastardly minions are infesting Metropolis and slithering their way into the history books, where they plan to rewrite history with their spooky ways. Only you have the power to go back in time to de-spook an encyclopedia of zombified historical dudes.

Again you’ll be able to face off against your foes using an arsenal of obscure weapons, including crossbows, ping-pong ball machine guns, Martian “Heatseeker” guns, and more. Vaporize garbage can ghosts and ninja spirits, rescue bug-eyed librarians and wigged-out pirates, dodge flying books and adolescent-eating plants!

The revamped versions of both games bring with them a handful of new features, including:

  • Save Feature: Quickly save your progress in either game and continue your adventure wherever and whenever you want
  • Museum Features: Watch a video interview with one of the original Zombies’ developers or explore numerous galleries containing game art, previously unreleased concept images and marketing assets
  • Soundtrack: Listen to the entire soundtracks for both games in the included music players
  • 2 Player Mode: Play the game with two player local co-op
  • Achievements: Track your game progress with a set of achievements covering both games

“Zombies Ate My Neighbors” and “Ghoul Patrol” will be available digitally, as a bundle, for $14.99 through the Nintendo Switch eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Steam on June 29, 2021. Limited Run Games will release physical editions of the games for “select modern and legacy platforms,” with details promised sometime this summer.
